A New BioShock Game May Be In Development

Jason Schreier

The news was uncovered by Kotaku's Jason Schreier while working on a story about Mafia III developer Hangar 13. The original trilogy of games were all well-received, with the first and third installments in particular garnering critical acclaim.

"If anyone from Hangar 13 tried to strike up a conversation with them, they'd say, 'Oh, we can't really talk about it, '" a source close to the studio told Kotaku. "Some went to other game companies; others moved to the top-secret studio next door to work on an unannounced new BioShock game".

In numerous financial briefings over the last fiscal year, Take-Two has stated 2K Games has a "highly anticipated new title" from one of its major franchises in the works. That's according to a recent report on Mafia III, in which a new BioShock game is mentioned in passing. However, a hand full setup shop in the studio next door and is supposedly working on a yet to be announced BioShock game.

The project is apparently still quite small. BioShock and BioShock Infinite concluded with a solid ending for the series while BioShock 2 was loosely connected to the core series and wasn't developed by Irrational Games who led the project since its debut. This is because a 2K studio of some kind is now working on the game as we speak. "Word got out, though", the article continues, "that it was in fact a new game in one of the most interesting shooter franchises of the past decade: BioShock".

It really shouldn't come as a much of a shock (heh) that 2K would want to bring back BioShock, seeing as the series has sold over 25 million copies.
