Police to provide update on Bruce McArthur case today

Investigators haven't found any new remains but do have new information on what they've uncovered

The alleged Canadian serial killer accused of burying his victims in garden planters is now facing a seventh murder charge, prosecutors in Toronto announced Wednesday.

Court documents show police allege Mr. McArthur killed Mr. Faizi on or around December 29, 2010, in Toronto.

Toronto police are expected to hold a news conference later today to provide an update on their investigation into McArthur.

McArthur was arrested on January 18, one day after police uncover evidence that "pushed the case over the edge", allowing them to charge McArthur in the deaths of Kinsman and Esen while initiating a massive search of properties connected to McArthur.

Mr. McArthur, who appeared wearing an orange jumpsuit, spoke in court this morning only to say his name and acknowledge that he understood the charges against him.

Police are also waiting for warmer weather to investigate other properties associated with McArthur, Idsinga said. -Sgt. Hank Idsinga had said.

Police have identified the remains of more men suspected to have been murdered by alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur as they expand their investigation more than four decades into the past.

Mr. Faizi's vehicle was found early in 2011 on Moore Ave, not far from the property where Mr. McArthur stored his landscaping tools, and where a number of the bodies have been located.

Crash victims noticed swerving before bus overturned
The states' transportation department said the entire eastbound of the highway remained closed late Thursday morning. Columbia County Sheriff's Office charged Hoppenbrouwer with driving under the influence and failure to maintain lane.

Since his arrest, police have said they've recovered the dismembered remains of seven people from planters at a Toronto home where McArthur worked and stored equipment.

Toronto police said last week that they are looking for any links between McArthur and a series of grisly, unsolved murders from the 1970s.

Police set up a task force, Project Houston, in 2012 after Skandaraj Navaratnam, Majeed Kayhan and Faizi, an Afghan who immigrated to Canada from Iran, went missing.

The latest charge has been laid in the death of Abdulbasir Faizi, a 42-year-old married father of two who vanished on December 29 2010.

August 2017 - Police launch Project Prism to investigate the disappearances of Esen and Kinsman. While he said there is no current evidence linking McArthur to the cold cases, he said they fit the general profile of the alleged victims identified to date. McArthur was questioned around the time Toronto police launched Project Houston, sources have told the Star.

Idsinga says police are now re-examining 15 cold cases dating back as far as 1975 in their investigation. He is scheduled to return to court April 25. Police Chief Mark Saunders has also initiated an internal review that will become public, and has called for some form of public inquiry.

Police also released an enhanced version of a photograph of a dead man they are trying to identify.
