Sloane Stephens Breaks Out of Her Slump With a Win in Miami

Miami Open 2018: Sloane Stephens shines again in the US to earn place in top 10

If you're searching for one point that sums up Sloane Stephens' 7-6 (5), 6-1 win over Jelena Ostapenko in the Miami Open final, look no further than the penultimate one.

In fact, four of Stephens's six titles have come in the U.S. She won in Charleston in 2016 and in Washington, D.C.in 2015.

Roland Garros champion Ostapenko of Latvia came into the match without having dropped a set or lost a tiebreak during the entire Miami fortnight, but both streaks came to an end at the hands of US Open victor Stephens.

Per WTATennis.com, winning the Miami Open will push Stephens-who entered the tournament ranked 13th-into the top 10 for the first time in her career.

"I think that's what I did best today". Next year the tournament will be moving to North Miami to Hard Rock Stadium, home of the Miami Dolphins. I have had some wonderful experiences here. "I have wanted to be in the top 10 for so long".

Seeded 13th, Stephens won with defence, repeatedly extending rallies until Ostapenko would make a mistake.

Both Stephens and Ostapenko had put previous poor form in 2018 behind them in this tournament, but there were errors aplenty from both players in an opening set that featured eight breaks of serve.

"Sometimes I was being too aggressive when I didn't have to but it was working at the beginning", admitted the world number five, after losing the fourth final of her career despite hitting 25 winners compared to her opponent's paltry tally of just six.

Oil eases back from 2018 highs above US$70 a barrel
So far, China has opened more than 6,000 trading accounts, including the country's oil majors and about 150 brokerages. Nearly 30,000 lots of the most-active September contract, had traded, equivalent to about 15 million barrels of crude.

In the span of two weeks, Sloane Stephens definitely enjoyed her familiar surroundings.

"I knew if I just got back to the drawing board I would be OK".

"I knew that I was just going to have to run a lot of balls down", said the victor.

This is the a year ago that the Miami Open is being held at Bey Biscayne in Crandon Park.

Stephens had shown improved speed as she continued to return Ostapenko's hits, before finally coming alive in attack at 3-1 with a deft drop-shot and a brilliant cross-court victor as the finish line came into sight.

She wobbled again leading 6-2 in the pivotal tiebreaker, committing unforced errors to squander consecutive set points.

"Even when I am down or people are doubting me, there are so many great opportunities out there I didn't worry". "I really just focused on myself and made sure that I was the best version of me", she sad. "That's because they appreciate it as much as I do".
