Omar Mateen's widow found not guilty

Wife of Pulse nightclub killer Omar Mateen found not guilty of aiding husband's attack that left 49 people dead

And her attorney held her hands and rubbed her shoulder.

Prosecutors said Salman knew about Mateen's plans and did nothing to stop them. "More questions is better than no questions", said Salman spokeswoman Susan Clary.

The defense argued that Salman had a low IQ and signed a false confession to the police after a long interrogation and out of fear of being separated from her son, who is now five. "I want to say thank you, Lord, for giving my niece (freedom)".

I believe in our criminal justice system and am grateful for the jury's hard work and thoughtful deliberation.

"Nothing can erase the pain we all feel about the senseless and brutal murders of 49 of our neighbors, friends, family members and loved ones". "Our community is strong".

Salman's husband was Omar Mateen, who shot and killed 49 people in the Pulse nightclub in June 2016.

Mateen, the American-born son of Afghan immigrants, was killed by police in the nightclub attack.

In a statement emailed to WFTV, the foreman of the jury said jurors were "convinced" Salman knew what Mateen was planning to do, but it was not their job to determine if she was aware of a potential attack.

During the trial, Linda Moreno, one of Salman's lawyers, told reporters that her client "had no foreknowledge, nor could she predict what Omar Mateen meant to do that tragic night". Those of us directly affected by this tragedy must find peace in our hearts and remember that he was the one who pulled the trigger that night.

Prosecutors argued the messages show Salman was helping her husband concoct a cover story to tell his parents, who had invited the couple to a fast-breaking dinner at their mosque.

GREEN: Well, this trial comes almost two years after this attack that just devastated the community here in Orlando.

Salman did not testify in her defense.

Security cameras also recorded Mateen going with Salman on a shopping spree for clothing, toys and jewelry at several stores in central Florida at least a week before the shooting. "I wish I'd go back and tell his family and the police what he was going to do". In the hours after the attack, she gave three statements to Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, and in them, she confessed to knowing what her husband was planning.

Defense attorneys cast Salman as a mother and a victim of Mateen's abuse and infidelity as well as of the FBI's coercive investigators.

"Why would Omar Mateen confide in Noor, a woman he clearly had no respect for?"

Defence attorney Fritz Scheller speaks with members of the media following the acquittal of the Pulse Nightclub gunman's widow Noor Salman in Orlando on Friday.

During the government's case, jurors watched video of Salman and Mateen standing together as he purchased ammunition and jewelry.

She said her husband only had one gun when he had three.

"Nothing harmful would come out of her", a friend of Salman's who was identified only as Ms. Ahmed told jurors.

But the defence portrayed her as an easily manipulated woman with a low IQ and argued that she signed a false confession because she was exhausted after a long interrogation and feared losing her young son. A judge rejected motions to either dismiss the case or order a mistrial earlier this week. The dates of the money transfers were between March 16 and June 5, 2016, according to the email.
