Apple CEO Tim Cook Slams Facebook, Says Privacy Is A Human Right

Mobility Steers Apple's New Education Strategy

Apple CEO Tim Cook took a serious jab Wednesday at fellow Silicon Valley bigwig Mark Zuckerberg and his company, Facebook, as large portions of the public and officials across the world are raking both over the coals.

Cook told Swisher that Apple could theoretically "make a ton of money if we monetised our customer, if our customer was our product". "We've elected not to do that".

"Privacy to us is a human right".

At the annual China Development Forum in Beijing last week, Cook said there was a need for "well-crafted regulation" to prevent users' information being peddled around without their knowledge.

"It doesn't mean that you can't use an iPhone to go to your browser and go to some porno site, if you want to do that", he said, prompting host Kara Swisher to interject with, "Nobody does that!" to both Cook and the audience's laughter. "However, I think we're beyond that here". I wouldn't be in that situation, Tim Cook replied.

LA police say recovered body likely missing model
The body of an aspiring actress and model is believed to have been found in a shallow grave in Northern California . Shabani came from Macedonia and had been in Los Angeles less than two years, according to her friends.

Speaking in an interview with U.S. network MSNBC and tech site Recode, the Apple chief executive said that while he believed tech firms should self-regulate, it was too late for Facebook.

If you haven't been following the situation, here's a quick recap of events to date: Facebook is in hot water with users and lawmakers after it was discovered that Cambridge Analytica managed to improperly obtain the data of around 50 million Facebook users, and may have shared that information with Donald's Trump 2016 presidential campaign. "I do think that it is time for a set of people to think deeply about what can be done here".

Tim Cook commenting against Facebook is not new, in 2015, Cook stated, "When an online service is free, you're not the customer". On the other hands, Facebook and other social media giants have made a lucrative business by selling consumer data to the ad firms. "It's a civil liberty", he added.

In an interview with CNN's Laurie Segall, Zuckerberg responded to a question about outside regulation in an unexpected way: "I actually am not sure we shouldn't be regulated".

You're the product." Zuckerburg had mocked Cook's ridiculous concept by saying, " What, you think because you're paying Apple that you're somehow in alignment with them?
