Venus survives marathon battle against Bertens in Miami

Konta's last tournament victory came at Crandon Park last year when she beat Caroline Wozniacki to the title

British number one Johanna Konta moved into the Miami Open fourth round with a dominant win over Elise Mertens.

The 11th seed will next face 37-year-old Venus Williams, the world number eight.

Venus Williams of the United States celebrates after match point against Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands (not pictured) on day six of the Miami Open at Tennis Center at Crandon Park.

"I tried to take my game to her and managed to do that for big pockets of time, but it's never easy to come through so I'm really happy", Konta said.

"I have really great memories from a year ago", said Konta in a on-court interview. "Hopefully, I can get to the end again".

Williams, ranked eighth in the world, laboured almost three hours to beat 29th-ranked Bertens 5-7, 6-3, 7-5.

Beating Bertens she claimed the 63rd win at the tournament, but after a massive start and a couple of breaks to move 4-0 up in the first set, Venus found herself on the brink.

Killing of Holocaust survivor treated as anti-Semitic attack
Earlier this month while addressing a local Jewish organization, Maron called anti-Semitism the "shame" of France. Mr Habib said Ms Knoll was able to escape from the roundup 'thanks to her mother's Brazilian passport'.

She saved a set point at 4-5 and then, against the run of the match, broke for 6-5 and took the set as her backhand suddenly rediscovered a lethal range.

Bertens was suffering from cramp in her right arm in the latter stages of the match and appeared to be in tears at one stage.

Bertens' confidence grew as Venus sent a forehand long to give her the chance to serve for the set at 6-5 and held to complete the seventh game in a row.

"In the tie-break, I showed my great tennis, and I won the match", Ostapenko said. "I had a lot of chances, she had a lot of chances. It didn't look good sometimes but that's why you keep playing to the last point, and why I love this game". "We were in a battle but I'm happy to be coming back tomorrow".

Fifth seed Karolina Pliskova advanced as Zarina Diyas retired when 6-2 2-1 down and she will take on three-time champion Victoria Azarenka, who beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 6-2, with Elina Svitolina also booking her spot in the quarter-finals with a 7-5 6-4 win over Ash Barty.

Konta has endured a poor 2018, but back-to-back straight-sets victories has lifted the Brit this week.

Kerber was made to sweat in her gruelling clash with China's Wang Yafan before prevailing 6-7 (1-7) 7-6 (7-5) 6-3.
