Southgate enjoying England's new brand of football

Jordan Henderson of Liverpool shows appreciation to the fans after the Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium

So what did England and Southgate take away from Amsterdam as they turn their attentions to Tuesday night's friendly against Italy at Wembley?

Previously a scorer of big goals rather than a big goal scorer, Jesse Lingard has been finding the net with increased frequency this season and impressively kept his composure to hit the match victor for England on Friday night - his first global goal.

It was certainly a pleasure for England manager Southgate to see Manchester United's talented 25-year-old transfer the form that has illuminated parts of the season at Old Trafford on to the global stage.

This wasn't a game full of chances, but England managed the game pretty well overall.

Gareth Southgate claimed his England players rediscovered the enjoyment of playing for their country on the way to defeating Netherlands. While Southgate's side could take heart from November's goalless draws against Germany and Brazil, with narrow wins over Slovenia (1-0, via a last-minute Harry Kane goal) and Lithuania (1-0, via a Kane penalty) preceding those fixtures, it is fair to argue England's attacking play has been far from thrilling.

Pickford was involved in the build-up to Jesse Lingard's victor and his abilities complement a young defence showing a "different skill-set" to the previous generation.

Toys "R" Us liquidation sales begin Friday
When you hear the word "liquidation", you automatically assume the prices are deeply discounted, but that isn't always the case. Toys R Us has announced that they will likely begin liquidating all products in USA stores starting Friday, March 23.

This was England's first win in Amsterdam since 1969.

And the England manager revealed that he had made a decision to play Walker in the role after seeing him impress in City's defence this season. "He's a player we've worked with for three or four years from the Under 21s and this year he is starting to finish the chances", the manager said.

"The defenders and goalkeeper are all capable, really capable, of using the ball well and we were able to work the game out tactically to make sure we got into areas of the pitch to keep it higher up". He's a fantastic athlete, so he added more pace to our defence.

"I think probably most pleasing (was) the players looked like they enjoyed their football tonight", he said.

Southgate said: "In a back three, we knew the position would suit Joe Gomez after he played there in November and it is the same for Kyle".

Six England fans remained behind bars Saturday along with two Dutch supporters after over 100 people were arrested in ugly clashes before a friendly global match in Amsterdam.
