Elon Musk deletes Tesla's Facebook page amid Cambridge Analytica scandal

The verified Facebook pages for SpaceX and Tesla were eliminated Friday after Elon Musk, the chief executive of both companies, was dared by a Twitter user to delete them. Other Musk ventures, such as Tesla and SolarCity, also deleted their Facebook Pages. Musk was just minding his own business and answering some of the desperado Twitterati when someone told him to delete his Facebook pages.

The Cambridge Analytica scandal continued to take its toll on Facebook on Friday as verified SpaceX and Tesla pages on the social network disappeared and speaker company Sonos made a decision to pull its ads off several social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, for a week.

Musk evidently determined to remove the web pages while replying to blog posts on Twitter, consisting of one from Brian Acton, the founder of the Facebook-owned WhatsApp. There were even a few Facebook pages claiming to be Musk himself.

"I didn't even realize there was [a Facebook page for SpaceX]".

"Looks lame anyway", Musk tweeted soon after, before pulling the SpaceX page as well.

During a tweetstorm on Friday, Musk nonchalantly erased Tesla and SpaceX's Facebook accounts.

Facebook has been under fire ever since Cambridge Analytica's use of personal data from the social media platform was exposed last week by whistleblower Christopher Wylie, who was later banned from the site. "What's Facebook?" Musk tweeted.

Russians vote in presidential election across 11 time zones
Britain and Russian Federation last week announced expulsions of diplomats over the spy case and the USA issued new sanctions. Voting fraud was widespread in Russia's 2011 parliamentary vote, triggering massive protests in Moscow against Putin's rule.

By deleting (or ordering someone else to do so) his company's Facebook pages, Musk joined an online movement calling for Facebook users to sever their ties to the social media giant.

He further elaborated that his companies have never advertised on Facebook.

Musk actually addressed that in a later tweet on Friday, taking the blame for the accident.

That said, Musk tweeted that he believes Facebook's influence has been slowly "creeping in" to Instagram.

" Also", he included, "we do not promote or spend for recommendations, so ... do not care".

Others asked why he was keeping Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, with Musk claiming he is now less perturbed by the photo-sharing website.
