A Jamaican songwriter named Michael May has filed a lawsuit against Miley Cyrus, claiming her hit "We Can't Stop" infringes on his intellectual property, a song called "We Run Things".

"We Run Things" - which hit No. 1 in Jamaica - includes the repeated line, "We run things". He says that Cyrus' song imitates "We Run Things"' "overarching message of defiance", as well as "substantially incorporat [es]" aspects of May's vocal style and rhythms.

According to legal documents first obtained by The Blast, Caribbean songwriter Michael May, who performs under the name Flourgon, has sued the singer in NY federal court. "Things no run we", a phrase May claims to have coined.

Flougron may have a case after he won "formal copyright protection" from the USA copyright office for all musical arrangements in "We Run Things" last November.

Epic publishes Fortnite Battle Royale mobile trailer
While announcing the mobile version , Epic talked of its vision for the game, saying, "We believe this is the future of games". The company then suggested that the gaming outlet reach out to Sony or Epic for more.

In Cyrus's song, the lyrics in one of the choruses are: "And we can't stop/And we won't stop/We run things, things don't run we/Don't take nothing from nobody/Yeah, yeah".

Flourgon's track never charted in the USA, and was released four years before Miley was born.

Flourgon has instructed to sue the singer and her record company Sony to block further distribution, sales, and performances of the song.

The suit does not specify how much cash May is seeking from Cyrus, 25, but a statement from his lawyers to the News claims he wants $300 million, as well as a trial by jury and for the singer to quit profiting from "We Can't Stop".
