Google doodle celebrates Pi Day

Google Doodle marks 30th year of Pi Day, the date that takes its digits from mathematics constant pi

Pi Day was first celebrated by physicist Larry Shaw at the Exploratorium in San Francisco nearly 30 years ago and incidentally in 2009, the United States House of Representatives voted in favour of designating 3/14 as Pi Day. As for the actual first calculation of 3.14, that's largely attributed to Archimedes, the Greek mathematician and astronomer who lived in the third century B.C.

Observers often celebrate the day with a slice of their favorite sweet pie to compliment the Greek letter's "delicious sounding name".

Today, Google doodle honors "Pi", the mathematical constant that never ends and never shows a pattern, with a pie. If you were curious, the National Pi Day official website has expanded it to a million places. Google Doodle celebrated International Pi Day, which also marks the birthday of renowned theoretical physicist Albert Einstein. The challenge is in its fifth year, and features mathematical problems that can be solved using Pi. Shaw organized the first celebration of π at the San Francisco Exploratorium science museum and of course chose March 14 because it corresponds with 3.14.

IndiGo cancels 65 flights after DGCA grounds planes with faulty engines
Both of the airlines have been asked to not use these same engines in their planes, even if they have them on spare. On 13 February, the DGCA had said that it was monitoring engine glitches to ensure that safety is not compromised.

How Many Numbers Are in Pi?

Today's Google Doodle has been baked and built by award-winning pastry chef and creator of the Cronut - Dominique Ansel who pays homage to the well-rounded mathematical constant by representing the pi formula (circumference divided by diameter) using pie. The rise of computing technology has led to an arms race of sorts to calculate ever more digits of pi: the current record was set a year ago by Christian physicist Peter Trueb, calculated pi to 22.4 trillion digits - 22,459,157,718,361, to be exact - outpacing the previous record set in 2013 by 9 million digits.

"As an irrational and transcendental number, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern".
