Trump examines border wall prototypes in California

Hundreds of immigration activists clergy members and others participate in a protest against Trump's immigration policies in front of the Federal Building in New York

Original post: Protests over President Donald Trump's "big attractive border wall" with Mexico are expected to mark his first visit to California as president on Tuesday amid growing tensions between his administration and the state over immigration enforcement. "Burn it!" women in the background could be heard chanting.

At San Ysidro, Jose Gonzalez, 21, stopped to snap a photo of the protesters holding signs, including one that read: "Wall off Putin!" in reference to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has a seemingly close relationship with Trump. Someone tore it to pieces, and a man threatened to light it on fire. Dianne Feinstein and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi for their recent criticism of a spate of immigration arrests in the state and a federal lawsuit challenging state laws that limit cooperation on immigration.

An angry mob of Trump supporters desecrated a Mexican flag that fell off a vehicle in San Diego, KTLA reports. "THIS MUST STOP!" he wrote.

On the Mexican side, federal police had to persuade around 50 demonstrators not to burn a yellow-haired pinata in Trump's likeness. Semitrucks were parked in between the row of prototypes and the border, blocking the view from Mexico. "We don't need your racist wall!" Although exact routes are never released for security reasons, police in the past have released lists of areas that motorists should avoid, but no such list has been released for Trump's visit. He traveled to Laredo - one of Texas' safest cities - weeks after declaring his candidacy in June 2015.

San Diego's Republican mayor criticised Trump's short visit, saying the president won't get a full picture of the city. He'll tour prototypes of a border wall, hoping to project momentum on a project he promised during his campaign but hasn't yet brought to fruition. His administration has requested US$18 billion that would build about 480 kilometres (300 miles) of new barrier where none exist and would replace older sections of fencing. "Rather than allowing the border to divide us, we're building bridges that connect us".

Drew Brees, Saints taking contract talks down to the wire
However a risky situation could be evolving if the Vikings make an offer that blows the Saints' stance out the water. If Brees is not re-signed by March 14th, the Saints take on the entirety of that $18 million dead money charge.

Jeff Schwilk, founder of San Diegans for Secure Borders, whose group participated in a rally in December near the prototypes that ended in clashes with counterprotesters, said the council's resolution does not reflect the views of many residents, who feel the border is not secure. While speaking alongside the prototypes for the border walls, Trump said that they needed to be tall so they can keep out those who are like "professional mountain climbers".

Standing beside the prototypes, as USA border patrol agents rode nearby on horseback, Mr Trump discussed the merits of various designs with border officials, his chief of staff, John Kelly, and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Asked recently at an event with reporters, Department of Homeland Security officials wouldn't specify what role the President would have in choosing among the prototypes.

Trump also boasted that they are working on prototypes before the wall is built so that they don't have to go back and rebuild it if it fails to prevent illegal immigration.
