The toy retailer is reportedly making plans to liquidate USA operations, and shutter stores.

Multiple news organizations have reported that Toys R Us is preparing to liquidate all of its USA stores after it failed to reach an agreement to restructure its business in Chapter 11.

Toys "R" Us filed for bankruptcy in September and has been closing stores to try to cut costs.

The liquidation would hurt more than just Toys "R" Us.

Linens 'N Things Canada, however, was not so lucky, closing down its 40 stores in 2008 when its US parent was in bankruptcy after failing to find a buyer.

The company has also struggled in Britain in recent years, resulting in Toys "R" Us UK to go into administration, putting around 3,000 jobs at risk there.

Toys "R" Us may be planning a sad end to its toy story: the liquidation of its bankrupt USA operations.

Jared Kushner to meet with Mexican president
Despite this, however, the president still sent Kushner to meet with Mexican officials as a diplomatic envoy on Wednesday. It is not a solicitation to make any exchange in commodities, securities or other financial instruments.

Both large and small toymakers were affected by the news.

Toys "R" Us is still the place where up-and-coming products get discovered.

Store closures represent about one fifth of retail giant's locations; Toys R Us hopes to restructure and recover from a bankruptcy filing.

Much of the stock, it said, would be subject to clearance discounts and other special promotions.

Toys R Us collapsed into administration at the end of February.

In January, the company announced it would be closing more than 180 of its almost 880 USA stores, including about two-dozen in California, affecting 4,500 workers. Receiving debtor-in-possession financing and bankruptcy protection, Brandon said, would "ensure the iconic Toys R Us brand stays viable for years to come". According to The Washington Post, Hasbro dropped $2.52 (2.7 percent) to $90.86 per share, while Mattel sank $1.01 (6.3 percent) to $14.96.
