Judge, police help oust Trump Hotels from Panama property

A group of Panamanian police officers stand inside the Trump Ocean Club International Hotel and Tower in Panama City Monday

Police visited the property two other times before Monday, leading the Trump Organization to issue a statement accusing Fintiklis of enlisting "a rogue private security team and others" to launch "a coordinated attack to physically take over the management of the Hotel". Hotel employees then called the police and the Trump team's security stayed in the lobby, though no further conflicts took place.

The Trump Organization refused to leave the property, saying Fintiklis had no legal grounds to break its contract.

A Trump Organization representative did not immediately respond to the AP's request for comment. Meanwhile, after Fintiklis and his associates hand-delivered termination notices to Trump Organization employees at the hotel, witnesses told the AP that they saw Trump executives moving files to a room, where they would be shredded.

The Trump name was taken off the sign posted outside the hotel.

There have been reports of physical confrontations between the new owner and his team, and the Trump administration staff.

United States determines North Korea used chemical weapons
Trump warned of a " phase two " that could be " very, very unfortunate for the world " if the steps did not work. North Korea on Thursday denied it was cooperating with Syria on chemical weapons.

In a clip from Univison's David Adams, Fintiklis said the matter is "a purely commercial dispute that just spun out of control - and today this dispute has been settled by the judges and the authorities of this country". "Looking back, it is now apparent that Mr. Fintiklis, in flagrant violation of the commitments he had made, never had any intention of keeping his word and had been plotting a takeover and termination of Trump Hotels all along".

Fintiklis escalated the fight in late February, when he showed up in Panama and sought to fire the Trump management in person.

Now, the Trump Hotels brand operates 11 properties in its portfolio after hotels in Toronto and NY similarly voted to step away from the brand recently.

The situation grew so bad that footage leaked of Trump Organization security and hotel officials fighting within the building. Or as a spokesperson for Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) told Business Insider, "When the president refused to divest from his businesses, there was always the fear that there would be some sort of incident at one of his overseas entities, and his judgment and loyalty could be tested".

The legal official herself did not say anything to reporters on the scene, so the exact nature of her decision was not clear.

The Panama hotel would be the fourth property that removed Trump's name since he won the 2016 presidential election.
