Trump calls for federal opioid lawsuit against drug companies

Donald Trump

First lady Melania Trump is scheduled to open Thursday's event in the White House East Room.

Trump loyalist and adviser Corey Lewandowski told Breitbart News Sunday on SiriusXM 125 The Patriot Channel this past weekend that he believed the president would be moving in this direction with trade, noting that it boils down to bringing manufacturing jobs, which were decimated and outsourced through various free trade agreements, back to the country. And majority don't even go to jail.

Trump would be well-advised to focus on the public health component of the opioid crisis.

The comments follow Attorney General Jeff Sessions' Feb. 28 announcement of a new Department of Justice task force launched to increase scrutiny on opioid makers and distributors. "Take the gun first, go through due process second", Trump declared.

Other administration officials were expected to attend as well as about 200 advocates and others directly connected to the opioid crisis.

'I'm not a terrorist' - Wanted Syrian Kurdish leader speaks out
Czech authorities have released a prominent leader of Syria's Kurdish community who was detained in Prague over the weekend. According to the agency, Kurdish YPG units attacked the Turkish military, which resulted in losses from the Turkish side.

Later on Thursday, Trump did not answer shouted questions by ABC News as to whether he continued to have confidence in Sessions.

"We have pushers and drug dealers that don't - I mean they kill hundreds and hundreds of people and majority don't even go to jail". He said that some countries levy extremely harsh penalties - including the death penalty - on "drug pushers and drug dealers" adding that "by the way, (those countries) have much less of a drug problem than we do".

"We have pushers and we have drug dealers that kill hundreds and hundreds of people and majority don't even go to jail", the president said.

"We need strength against pushers and drug dealers", he said. "And by the way, they have much less of a drug problem than we do".

States, counties and cities in recent months have filed hundreds of lawsuits against drug companies for allegedly engaging in deceptive marketing tactics to promote widespread, unsafe use of opioid medications. "The administration has prioritized the issue and is implementing strategies around saving lives, lowering demand and lowering supply", said Adams.
