United Nations report links North Korea, Syria

Syria has conducted chemical weapons attacks on civilians in Eastern Ghouta

Russian Foreign Minister Sergi Lavrov, addressing the UN-sponsored Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, responded that Syria has eliminated its chemical weapons stockpiles and placed them under global control, despite "absurd claims" against the Assad government.

The report details "substantial new evidence" about North Korea's dealings with Syria, dating back to 2008.

The White Helmets volunteer rescue group had posted photos of the chemical attack in the rebel-held territory of Eastern Ghoutaon on Twitter, under the hashtag "Douma Suffocating".

Assad has denied subsequent allegations that Syria uses chemical weapons, including in an alleged attack a year ago that led to the USA bombing a Syrian airfield.

Syria has been repeatedly accused of using banned chemical weapons in their civil wars despite an agreement with the Chemical Weapons Convention, according to which the country declared it would destroy its chemical weapon stocks.

But Western officials and nonproliferation experts have long suspected that Assad retains some chemical weapons.

But a confidential report, compiled by a UN Panel of Experts which assesses North Korea's compliance with UN resolutions, found evidence of illicit supplies sent to Syria.

She suggested that as North Korea's government becomes more desperate, it will look for "creative" means of funding its nuclear development.

Bruins Acquisition Of Rick Nash Should Improve Their Stanley Cup Odds
It's still unknown if Spooner was a piece the Rangers really wanted, or if it was more of Don Sweeney forcing Jeff Gorton's hand. In addition to having a stand out 16-17 regular season Holden added two goals and two assists in 11 postseason games for NY .

Despite current global sanctions over its nuclear programme, according to the same report North Korea had attempted to establish illicit trade links with other countries in the Middle East, North Africa and Latin America.

Since taking office more than a year ago, President Trump has met North Korean threats and bombast with fiery rhetoric in kind, but American demands for denuclearization - a USA precondition for potential talks, dangled by the North as the Olympic Games wrapped up on Sunday - are widely considered likely to be futile.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry noted that despite numerous claims and accusations against Damascus regarding the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government, none of them has ever been proved to be true. Despite a retaliatory USA strike ordered by Trump in 2017, global reaction has been largely confined to diplomatic hand-wringing.

An unpublished United Nations report says that North Korea sent materials that could be used in chemical weapons to Syria and missile technology to Myanmar.

It said an unnamed United Nations member state also reported evidence of Myanmar's receipt of a range of conventional weapons from North Korea including multiple rocket launchers and surface-to-air missiles in addition to ballistic missile systems. It was also said that there is a very high probability that experts in chemical weapons might be residing in Barzeh, Adra and Hama.

Director of Research for the Middle East at Amnesty International Lynn Malouf said the pact represented "a betrayal of humanity".

"Russia together with the Syrian government have already announced the establishment of humanitarian corridors in Eastern Ghouta", Lavrov told the United Nations Human Rights Council.
