Amazon steps toward security things

Amazon Advances Into Home Security With $1 Billion Ring Acquisition

According to Reuters, Amazon is said to have paid over $1 billion for Ring, although neither company has detailed any figures. With the success of the Echo family of products that enables users to control surveillance cameras and other connected devices with voice commands, it makes sense for the company to expand their smart home portfolio.

The addition of Ring, which has about one million customers, could help boost adoption of Amazon Key and, in turn, the AmazonFresh food delivery service, which is available in London, as well as some USA states, Tokyo, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich. One firm that's not thrilled with Ring: home security company ADT, which sued the startup for intellectual property theft over one of its products.

Ring makes video doorbells that allows owners to see who's at the door remotely. The ecommerce behemoth is expected to let Ring operate as an independent business (much like they did with Zappos and Twitch), while reaping the benefits of the company's home-security hardware. "We look forward to being a part of the Amazon team as we work toward our vision for safer neighborhoods". Today it has been revealed that Amazon have purchased Ring supposedly for over a billion dollars.

Brock Lesnar Meets With Dana White On Sunday
UFC president Dana White has revealed he would like to see Brock Lesnar make a return to MMA as rumours continue to swirl. Unsurprisingly though, the rumors are hinting that he could be considering a move back to the UFC.

As Amazon seeks to build out technologies that interact with its voice assistant Alexa, there are signs that Google is gaining a greater share of the smart speaker market with its Google Home devices. At the time of that announcement, Amazon unveiled a Cloud Cam product that essentially is an indoor security camera. Amazon put in to Ring previous year through its enterprise capital arm, the Alexa Fund. Amazon uses Alexa fund to support businesses that develop apps for the Echo and Alexa.

An Amazon spokesman said it bought Ring to help customers keep their homes "safe and secure". Ring also has a range of connected home security cameras.

With its acquisition of Ring, Amazon now gains access to a suite of indoor and outdoor home security products. The Santa Monica-based company has more than 1,000 employees and more than 1 million customers, which it calls "neighbours", spread over more than 100 countries.
