Mirai Nagasu: Olympic free skate was 'DWTS' audition; showers too cold

Americans fail to medal in free skate but Mirai Nagasu could earn one for excuses

The historic jump Nagasu landed during the free skate portion of Team USA's bronze medal-winning team performance changed everything about her status as an global competitor, marking the first time an American woman has landed that jump on Olympic ice and only the third time an American has landed it in competition at all, following Tonya Harding and Kimmie Meissner.

The Russians also have strong contenders, including two-time reigning world champion Evgenia Medvedeva, who broke her own short program world record in the team event.

The 24-year-old Nagasu was fourth at the 2010 Vancouver Games but never got going in the individual competition at the Pyeongchang Games after helping the US win a team bronze. "We got to walk in the opening ceremonies and then I saved the team event, with Adam (Rippon) and Maia and Alex Shibutani". "I hope it sends the message to other skaters as well that you don't have to learn your jumps at such a young age".

None of the three 2014 Olympians made this team, and Ashley Wagner's world silver medal in 2016 was followed by her toughest seasons in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Karen Chen fumbled during her routine for the women's short program.

Mirai Nagasu falls while performing during the women's short program for figure skating.

"I was working on triple axels and quad toes on the harness so I could try to keep up with the men in the rink", she said.

"I can't speak for everybody, but for me, I'm sticking around and I'm going to work as hard as I possibly can to bring us up in the ranking", Tennell said. Zagitova earned 156.65 points for her program to "Don Quixote", laying down the challenge for her countrywoman. She also helped the USA win bronze in the figure skating category.

Mother Language Day: Punjab demands due respect for Punjabi
President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko wrote this on his Facebook page on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day . Perhaps, we are the only country in the world where the government has recognised 22 official languages.

When Nagasu was fourth in 2010 and Gracie Gold fourth in Sochi, Russia, four years later, US skating officials faced three-alarm panic from its devotees.

- Short-track speed skating: Finals include the men's 500 meters, women's 1,000 meters and men's 5,000-meter relay.

"I would like to be on "Dancing With the Stars" because I want to be a star", Nagasu told The Washington Post. "At the time I was kind of in the prime of my career".

Nagasu wound up ninth, with her teammates right behind. "I'm not very fond of skating first, but that's kind of what you train for", she said. "I don't. I'm not a happy camper in the world of skating today".

Tennell's fall is her first this season. "Many did not understand why she wouldn't pull through because it was in her home country, and she said you will strongly feel when it is time to stop". "It's surprising, but I really respect that she stays with her responsibilities, running a business".

Nagasu fully intends to attempt - and land - the triple axel once again in the ladies' free skating event.

Tennell, 20, was even shocked by her early fall. We all make mistakes. In hockey it's the Czech Republic vs. the Olympic Athletes from Russian Federation and Canada vs. Germany to determine who will play for gold. "She's got her glitter and relay socks on, and there is just no stopping Jessie Diggins when she has her socks and glitter on". But she wasn't focused on her disappointing performance where she finished 10th and failed to take off on her triple axle jump.
