Jackson Local Schools in Ohio on lockdown after student shoots himself

During Tuesday's shooting at Jackson Memorial Middle School in Massillon several frightened students feared the worst, they didn't know what was going on. The unidentified 7th-grader was taken to a local hospital where his condition is unknown.

Mom said she immediately called the police and found out that the lockdown at the school was very real.

Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto said middle school officials will decide later whether classes will be held Wednesday, WKYC reported.

In a message released Tuesday morning, the Jackson Local Schools district stated the incident happened at Jackson Memorial Middle School. The Middle School and High School are on lockdown at this time.

According to school officials, they are now working on an orderly dismissal.

'Students will be released to their parents in the near future'.

The shooting happened about 7:51 a.m. and the student is now hospitalized, WKYC reports. The woman, Lisa Oswald, told WJW she's scared and sad for her son, who is in the sixth grade.

All four Jackson Township elementary schools are now closed and the high school is in the process of evacuating, officials said at the news conference.
