Israel strikes multiple targets in Gaza; Rocket hits Israeli home

Israeli tank opens fire at Gaza after blast along border wounds 4 soldiers

Israel's attacks were the response to an explosion that left four soldiers wounded following a routine patrol on the border between the Gaza Strip and Israel.

Sirens were sounded as an Israeli home was reportedly hit by a rocket fired from Gaza.

"Hamas is responsible for the event and its ramifications, as well as for everything that occurs inside and outside Gaza, above and below the ground", the statement said.

Two Palestinians were injured in Israeli multiple airstrikes on facilities belonging to Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, local sources said.

In a separate incident, an IDF tank opened fire on a group of Palestinians approaching the border in a "suspicious manner", the army said.

Police said the third had rocket hit a structure in a community near Gaza, causing damage but no casualties. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the incident "severe" and vowed to "respond accordingly".

Two Palestinians were injured in the raids, Palestinian medical sources said.

"Hamas will continue to resist and the Israeli attacks won't break our people's determination", he said. Tensions between the Palestinians and Israel have been high since US President Donald Trump recognised Jerusalem as the capital of the Jewish state in December.

About two weeks ago, the Israeli Air Force struck two Hamas terrorist targets in the southern Gaza Strip at a site that serves as a military compound in response to a rocket fired at the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council a day earlier.

The March 5 visit comes after a war of words between close allies Israel and the U.S. over settlements, and a scandal that has seen police recommend Netanyahu be indicted for graft.
