Barnaby Joyce: Australia PM's remarks 'inept', Deputy says

The prime minister announced a change in the country’s ministerial code of conduct banning sexual relations between government ministers and their staff

However, the pressure on the 50-year-old politician to resign as Nationals leader and deputy prime minister is not directly related to the affair with his former press advisor, 33-year-old Vikki Campion.

Joyce warned that any pressure on the Nationals to dump him "locks people in as they lock-in behind the leader".

Labor's Anthony Albanese said Malcolm Turnbull was unable to act against Mr Joyce because of the secret coalition deal.

Another thing you might be wondering about at this point is how Turnbull and Joyce could possibly resolve this.

Although the prime minister will be in the United States next week, Joyce will not serve as acting prime minister while he is away because he is taking personal leave following the mounting scandal.

The extramarital affair prompted the prime minister on Thursday to ban sex between ministers and their staff.

The Senate passed a motion yesterday for Mr Joyce to resign, saying he had breached standards of behaviour expected of a minister.

Mr. Turnbull announced the amendment to the ministerial code of conduct at an extraordinary press conference during which he slammed deputy Barnaby Joyce for causing "terrible hurt and humiliation" to his wife and four children.

What they hate more is the perception that public funds have been used to support Joyce's lover, that they both have received lucrative perks unavailable to them, and that he believes he should suffer no professional consequences for what the PM says is a "shocking error of judgment".

"I would not be making comments or implied comments about the leadership of the Liberal Party and we don't expect to get implied comments about the leadership of the National Party".

It's meant to give us a glimpse of the kind of mobile broadband we can expect with the arrival of 5G in 2019. The first commercial devices equipped with the Snapdragon X24 are expected by the end of the year.

"We are our own independent political unit - we make our own decisions, especially around those who are the office holders". The conservative parties have formed every non-Labor government since World War Two.

Turnbull on said Joyce should "consider his own position, obviously".

This afternoon, at yet another media conference, Turnbull sought to paper over the differences, denying any effort to criticise or "influence the National Party or its deliberations in any way at all".

The Prime Minister's intervention may prove to be the final nail in the coffin. He urged Turnbull to delay a trip to the U.S. until the "circus" was resolved, "one way or the other".

He lost the national election in the same year to the Liberals' Tony Abbott, who was then deposed by rival Turnbull in 2015.

Many unanswered questions remain about the origins and exact motives behind the unleashing of the allegations against Joyce.

Joyce lashed out on Friday, calling Turnbull's remarks "inept". The Australian political press has traditionally steered clear of politicians' sex lives unless there is a legitimate public interest.

Joyce has no differences whatsoever with the U.S. alliance. Are you exhausted of being governed by politicians who seem more interested in party games than voters?

The Australian's contributing economics editor Judith Sloan produced a long list of Joyce's "appalling policy positions", including "re-regulation of the sugar industry in Queensland", shifting the pesticides-agricultural chemicals regulatory agency from Canberra to his electorate and remaining "silent about alleged theft of irrigated water" in the northern parts of the Murray-Darling Basin.

Turnbull said he will change the ministerial conduct rules, new standards broadly similar to a ban on relationships between lawmakers and staffers adopted last week by US Congress.
