Taylor Petrehn is a semifinalist in the James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef awards for the second year in a row.

Silvana Salcido Esparza, chef and owner of Barrio Cafe Gran Reserva: Chef Esparza is also nominated for "Best Chef: Southwest", marking her sixth nomination in that category. This marks the fifth time Bhatt has been nominated for the award.

On March 14, the final list of nominees will be announced, with winners named April 27.

The James Beard Foundation said its roster of nominees was selected from some 23,000 chefs, restaurants and bars submitted by the public during an open call last fall. The foundation named in his honor was set up to provide scholarships to aspiring food professionals and to champion the American culinary tradition, which Beard helped create.

Mama's Fish House in Paia is nominated in one of the top categories, outstanding restaurant nationwide.

The 2018 James Beard semifinalists have been announced and several St. Louis restaurants and chefs made the cut. Semifinalists are picked by a committee that goes through the online nominations and narrows the field for each award based on eligibility. Only 27 percent of the semifinalists were women a year ago. Here's a look at who is up for the big awards in Pa. It also continues Houston's recent James Beard hot streak.

This year's rising star chefs, a category that includes chefs ages 30 and younger deemed most likely to "make a significant impact on the industry in years to come", are divided nearly equally between male and female chefs.

Among the list of semifinalists were 20 restaurants in Pennsylvania.
