Winnefeld on US Clash with Syrian Forces

Syrian regime forces launched a coordinated attack that included about 500 regime troops, 122mm howitzers, tanks and multiple launch rocket systems on the USA -backed SDF headquarters in Deir al-Zor province approximately five miles east of the Euphrates River, a de-confliction line between the coalition and Russian and Syrian forces, according to Business Insider.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), coalition advisers were present in the area that was attacked by pro-government forces in Deir Ezzor province late on Wednesday.

The ministry said that the attack 'demonstrates that the true goal of the continued illegal presence of US forces on Syrian territory was the capture and control of economic assets that belong exclusively to the Syrian Arab Republic, not a fight against the ISIS worldwide terrorist group, ' Interfax reported. Many are operating with local allies, known as the Syrian Democratic Forces, in the eastern oil-producing Deir el-Zour region along the Euphrates River.

Western powers have expressed alarm over the government's bombing campaign in rebel-held Eastern Ghouta, where 400,000 people have been living under siege since 2013. This clash, which took place in Khusham near the Euphrates River, is the largest reported to date between USA -backed forces and pro-regime forces in Syria.

Calling the attack a "perplexing situation", Mattis said he could not give any explanation why they would shell the SDF headquarters with artillery.

The Air and artillery strikes from American and coalition forces happened in the eastern part of Syria in the middle of the Euphrates Valley which has for a long time been a non-official boundary for the two warring factions. "Coalition officials were in regular communication with Russian counterparts before, during and after the attack".

Apple AirPod nearly blows up in man's ear
When listening to a song through his AirPods , he noticed what appeared to be smoke emanating from one of them. Colon told the TV station that "It was already popped". "I didn't see it happen but it was already fried".

Coalition and Russian officials were "in regular communication...before, during and after" the assault, the same official said.

But Turkey's military said on Friday that its fighter jets bombed 19 targets belonging to "terrorists", including shelters, ammunition depots and gun positions, according to the AP.

"The recent incident once again shows that the United States' illegal military presence in Syria is actually aimed at taking control of the country's economic assets and not at fighting against ISIS", a statement said.

The U.S. said Russian mercenaries were among the casualties in Wednesday's strikes. It also lowers (in only a very small way) the likelihood of a confrontation with the US if these forces come into contact.

Whatever the precise number of casualties-the Pentagon's figures are suspect given that the bombings and artillery barrages were not followed up by any ground attack-the incident marks a major escalation of USA aggression against Syria, eclipsing the firing of 59 U.S. cruise missiles last April in response to an unsubstantiated allegation of a chemical weapons attack in Idlib province.
