North Korea warns against military drills after Olympics

Murray Buchan set to flourish in the pressure cooker of Pyeongchang

North Korea's national flag was raised in the South Thursday for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, organisers said, after an exemption came into force to avoid breaching Seoul's tough national security law.

Bishop Lee of Uijeongbu, which borders North Korea, stated: "North Korea's participation is meaningful as it is a step forward to a new era of peace by ending the long-lasting struggles".

The hosts made a statement, confirming that "baskets with condoms will be placed at both men's and women's toilets at athletes villages in Pyeongchang and Gangneung, the main press centre, the media village as well as medical centres".

"We are delighted to welcome everyone here today for the official opening of the Pyeongchang Olympic Village", he said.

But athletes are allowed to take part in South Korea as neutrals under an agreement similar to that put in place to allow able-bodied Russian competitors to take part in the Winter Olympics which start next week.

Former Olympic swimming champ Dara Torres told CNN in 2012: "What happens in the (Olympic) Village stays in the Village".

GeekWire: Amazon releases Super Bowl ad, Alexa loses voice
Either way, the timing couldn't be better for Amazon given that Apple is releasing its rival smart speaker , the $349 HomePod , . This feature now sends SMS messages only to Android phones, because Apple is not offering its messaging APIs to third-parties.

South Korea will seek to have a spot as an individual member and will nominate a renowned heavyweight in the sporting world as its International Olympic Committee candidate.

22 North Korean athletes will compete at the event but organizers are still working to provide the same or similar benefits to them.

Athletes are already living in the Villages, with the first arriving last week.

During last year's drills, Pyongyang launched multiple missile tests and held a massive artillery exercise at the end of April.

We are doing our best to support the Olympic athletes as they prepare so they can perform to the best of their abilities at the Games.

A total of 110,000 condoms will be distributed at the event, translating to about 37.6 contraceptives per athlete, the South China Morning Post reported.
