President Trump to deliver his first State of the Union address

Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said on Monday Jan

President Donald Trump will deliver his first State of the Union address Tuesday night, but he won't be the only one trying to send a message.

While the first president, George Washington, addressed Congress in its temporary home in New York, Thomas Jefferson broke with the tradition in 1801.

Rep. Judy Chu had been on the speakers list but is attending Trump's State of the Union address, a spokesman confirmed.

One issue that Trump could mention is his decision to move the American embassy in Israel to Jerusalem and recognize the city as Israel's capital. While his immediate audience will be the packed chamber, the speech will be beamed live on TV channels across the country. Trump's tone will be as important as the speech's content.

At last year's speech, Trump won praise for sticking to the teleprompter. In particular, the president is expected to highlight the strong economic figures that have continued into 2018.

"We've had customers who have launched new products, simply because of the confidence with the tax cuts moving forward", said Steve Staub, who runs a family metal fabrication business in Dayton, Ohio.

The White House said that the president would point to a robust economy and low unemployment during his first year and the benefits of a tax overhaul during Tuesday's address to Congress and the nation.

Mr Trump has so far been unsuccessful in lowering United States trade deficits around the world.

Additionally, the president told reporters Monday that he will call for better trade deals.

Congressional Republicans, for instance, are so anxious privately about the impetuous leader of their party that they cling to any grain of normalcy — repeating it like a mantra to reassure themselves that Trump is, in fact, able to rise to the occasion of commander in chief.

"[Nixon] urged Congress to bring that investigation...to an end,"Mercieca".

Much of the public seems to anticipate these fleeting moments where Trump seems to understand and channel the gravity and import of the presidency, and plays the role of a traditional leader. The speech comes on the heels of new developments in the Russian Federation investigation, including the resignation of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.

In addition, the White House refrained this week from putting additional sanctions on Russian Federation, despite Congress passing a law allowing the administration to do so.

Administration officials said over the weekend that while foreign policy isn't expected to be a major part of the speech, Trump would speak of his commitment to supporting America's allies around the world.
