Raila Odinga finally takes oath as the People's President

State House Nairobi

Broadcasters NTV, Citizen TV and KTN were on Tuesday taken off air in what appeared to be the government making good a threat to shut off any media outlet that went "live" with the highly publicised swearing-in of Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Kenya's Attorney General Githu Muigai declared in December that swearing in an alternative president would constitute an act of treason for everyone "facilitating the process", without naming Odinga specifically.

An estimated crowd of 15,000 gathered in a central Nairobi park on Tuesday to cheer Mr Odinga as he took a symbolic presidential oath.

The re-run earned Mr Kenyatta 98% of the ballots cast, but Mr Odinga boycotted that election over claims it was a scam. Odinga's growing popularity among its supporters is quite obvious especially that he is depicted as the only legitimate Kenyan President. Property of members of organized criminal groups can be seized.

"Today is a historic day for the people of Kenya", Odinga said in a speech after taking his oath. The supporters expected Raila to be sworn in with Kalonzo Tuesday afternoon but Kalonzo never came.

As for plans following his unsanctioned inauguration ceremony, Odinga refused to reveal more, telling local news media to "hold your horses". Police have vowed to block opposition supporters from attending the event.

He says that a similar meeting was held in State House in 2014, which resulted in the exit of Mark Kapchanga from Standard Media after authoring a detailed story on the cabinet retreat in Nanyuki that had gobbled up millions of taxpayers' money without justification.

One anchor, Dmitri Nizovtsev, was detained by police during the raid, according to video broadcast by the gheadquarters. They marched in Vladivostok, in Russia's Far East, and they marched in Siberia's Irkutsk, braving subzero temperatures.

"We would like to confirm that this morning the Communication Authority disconnected Citizen and Inooro TV transmission." his statement read in part.

"Kenyatta's government lacks legitimacy due to the poor turnout in the election re-run, but he has shown limited intent to try to overcome the country's division", said Emma Gordon, Senior Africa Analyst at Verisk Maplecroft.

NASA is considered the victor of the presidential elections held last August, which were annulled by the Supreme Court.

Mutua, who had warned that an illegal oath-taking would taint Kenya's reputation, mocked the Opposition on Twitter saying the event was bound to fail.

"I, Raila Omolo Odinga, do swear that I will protect the nations as people's preaident, so help me God", the rival president said, swearing in to the cheers of thousands.

However, it was said that the absence of Musyoka and other coalition partners did not matter.
