Jimmy Kimmel still has nightmares about the Oscars flub

After nominees and awards pundits reacted to the Academy Award nominations announced on Tuesday, late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O'Brien also took the chance to weigh in on the surprises, snubs and shoo-ins.

Host Jimmy Kimmel is still haunted by the Oscars Best Picture fail past year, where La La Land was mistakenly named the victor even though Moonlight actually won.

Best Picture nominees for this year include Call Me By Your Name, Darkest Hour, Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, Phantom Thread, The Post, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

The most nominations went to The Shape of Water, which racked up 13 nods, including Best Picture, Best Director, "and Outstanding Achievement in Fish Penis Design", Kimmel said. "Finally Hollywood is recognizing a monster other than Harvey Weinstein", Kimmel said. And as Jimmy Kimmel reviewed the nominations Tuesday night, he might have been giving a sneak peek of sorts as to what his second turn as host will look like.

The muddled moment is featured at the beginning of the new ad as Kimmel awakes from a nightmare and reveals he's always thinking about the Best Picture mishap, joking he can no longer open an envelope as mail piles up at his door.

"Jordan Peele is now going to be invited to a big party thrown by rich white people", Colbert said. To Colbert's mind, there's another monster that del Toro's fish man could represent: "It's a great story", Colbert said of the film.

Colbert mentioned nominated directors Jordan Peele and Greta Gerwig, as well as veteran actress Meryl Streep. "I hope he's seen 'Get Out'".

This morning the nominations for the premier awards event were announced. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

Wood Jr. also praised out Mary J. Blige and Octavia Spencer's nominations, adding that he knew the former was getting nominated for one simple reason: "Any time a black woman isn't wearing any makeup you know she's getting a nomination".
