Angelique Kerber Eases into Australian Open Semis

Kerber, a two-time major champion, is unbeaten this year, having won the Sydney International heading into the first grand slam of the season.

"I saw that I can win matches with it. I have to change something".

She said she would sit down with her coach, the 2000 Australian Open victor Lindsay Davenport to try and figure out a way forward.

Fissette does not tend to stay in his posts for long, but he is clearly an excellent analyst. You know, at the end, it's the same, like I said, the whole week. It doesn't matter against who I play.

"Wim is a positive guy".

Keys, who had also made easy work of her opponents in the rounds prior was no match for Kerber's focused game. She has been the most dominant player in the tournament.

The 30-year-old said while that was an important area of her game, becoming more aggressive was also a focus.

"Last night was really tough". She's playing without bandages, playing with loose and quick movement, and seemingly running around with no pain.

Facing Kerber did not look like much fun for Keys on Wednesday.

Kerber is on a 13-match winning streak while 17th-seeded Keys beat No 8 Caroline Garcia in the fourth round.

Manchester United set to hand Jose Mourinho contract extension
Mourinho is not just thinking about the future but the present too as he bids to sign Arsenal's Alexis Sanchez during the January transfer window.

Mertens, a 22-year-old Belgian, piled up an impressive number of good wins last year and established herself as a clever, flexible player with an all-court attacking game.

Taking to the court just before 11 p.m. local time, the pair slugged it out for two hours and 41 minutes in the late match at Rod Laver Arena before former US Open finalist Pliskova finally put down her compatriot. "I felt like I was trying different things, but I wasn't playing very consistent. Next time I knew I had to play everything better".

A good deal of the credit for this transformation has to go to her new coach, Wim Fissette, who is one of the best on the women's side.

"I feel that", Keys said.

"I think it will be a long match with a lot of long rallies", Kerber said. I think I have handled a lot of the bigger situations better, and I just need to keep working on that.

The German broke her six times overall, letting slip on her own serve just once, and then continued her outstanding start to 2018.

"I'm evolving guys", she said, smiling.

But she could not find a way to do justice to her abilities on Wednesday, making almost twice as many unforced errors as winners and often rushing when patience would have been advisable.

Feeling not-so-good was Keys, who committed 25 unforced errors to Kerber's seven.

Sandgren failed to win a match in his two previous main draw appearances at grand slams before arriving at Melbourne Park and he attributes the turnaround to his round of 32 defeat to Chung in Auckland.
