These Optical Company Stocks Sell Off Amid Apple iPhone X Woes

A previous report suggested that the Cupertino giant no longer manufactures the iPhone 6 Plus

One of the major factors that contributed to the change is how the Chinese customers, which make up one of the biggest markets in the world, responded to the release of the iPhone X. The only segment that didn't achieve growth north of 10% was the iPhone 8-led smartphone business, but the modest 2% advance there isn't so surprising with the iPhone X hitting the market the following quarter.

In other Apple news, insider Daniel J. Riccio sold 15,641 shares of the stock in a transaction that occurred on Tuesday, November 14th.

However, sales in the iPhone X have not been as promising. It's possible the company will exceed last year's unit sales totals.

Here's a good news for iPhone 6 Plus users.

When Kuo's initial prediction made headlines, it was mischaracterized in the blogosphere as Apple "canceling" the iPhone X, as if it were cutting off production immediately and flipping an iPhone X sign on the door of the Apple Store to read "permanently out of stock".

A report from MacRumors on Monday suggests Apple will discontinue the original iPhone X when the second-generation model is released later this year, instead of making the phone cheaper. All three will allegedly have Face ID on board along with other new features. The OLED supply chain is still ramping up capacity to accommodate Apple's volumes for iPhone X. With Apple expected to launch two OLED-equipped models later this year, up from just one OLED-equipped iPhone in 2017, the company is already going to need significantly more OLED panels. There is still no info as to how Apple will determine if you get the upgrade or which models of the phone are eligible. It is Apple's historically strongest quarter as holiday sales and fall iPhone rollouts prop up revenue.

Rakers estimates iPhone shipments at 81.1 million with an average selling price of about $760, and he said the Wells Fargo iPhone Index implies a result in the high-70 million to low-80 million range.

The analyst speculates that the data collected by KGI Securities predicts an uncertain 5 percent growth in the first half of 2018. Apple may have plans to drop the "X" moniker, and do away with the rest of the iPhone numbering system, too.

Ming-Chi Kuo is right that iPhone X production will shut down, and it'll probably be in the summer. The market was anxious that the phone's high price would weaken the demand once the euphoria was over. The company has that shows off selfies captured with Portrait Lighting effects.
