'Serial stowaway' arrested again after flying to London, police say

Serial Stowaway Held on $200K Bond

Hartman has been caught attempting to board various flights over the years and was jailed in 2015 for trying to bypass security at Chicago's two major airports. Her arrest last week was at least the 10th time she's been caught trying to slip past airport security without a plane ticket.

Marilyn Hartman, 66, managed to get through a federal Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at a domestic terminal without a ticket before taking a shuttle to the global terminal.

"The defendant then hid in a small room in the side before quickly walking past a U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent who was looking at passports of individuals", said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Maria McCarthy.

She's charged with felony theft and a misdemeanor count of criminal trespassing.

Hartman had reportedly wandered around Chicago O'Hare for two days without being questioned.

Hartman was sent back to Chicago where the police authorities were waiting for her.

"British customs picked her up upon arrival after being forewarned by the airline there was a passenger on board without a ticket and a boarding pass, although she was able to find a seat", the spokesman said.

Ms Hartman's methods are unknown, although local media have reported she usually tries to blend in with large groups.

The so-called serial stowaway has been arrested several times across the country.

Chicago Department of Aviation spokesperson said no passengers were endangered during the incident.

"We are working with our law enforcement partners to support a comprehensive and thorough investigation, while continuing to maintain the highest levels of security at O'Hare Airport", Huffman said in a statement.

She appeared before a judge Saturday afternoon, after which she was released under her own recognizance.

Marilyn Jean Hartman on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014.

In 2016, she was sentenced to two years of probation and six months at a mental health facility. "During the initial investigation it was determined that the passenger was screened at the security checkpoint before boarding a flight". The judge dished out a harsh scolding as he recounted Hartman's history, which included several attempts to escape from mental-health facilities in IL.

Hartman claims she is homeless and feels safer in airports than on the streets.
