Nintendo's New Cardboard Switch Accessories Are Classic Nintendo Weirdness

DIY experience Nintendo Labo launches on Switch this April

The kits are made up of modular cardboard components that can be built into various real-world items "specially created to interact with the Nintendo Switch" and allow gamers to "relive their childhood". Friends and family will be able to use the creations and join in on games. Most of these toys and games seem geared towards kids, and I can't imagine a scenario where I would sit down, build the Toy-Con, and play.

For example, one toy is a 13-key cardboard piano that the console and controllers slot into. The Joy-Cons are inserted into the sides of the piano while the Switch console/screen is slid into the top, kind of like sheet music. In addition, it will be accompanied by the Nintendo Labo Robot Kit, a game that will allow you to take control of a robot that performs different actions.

Indeed, Nintendo says that part of the fun comes in how players develop an understanding of how everything works. The US price is set at $69.99 for the variety pack and $79.99 for the robot pack.

The Variety Kit comes with five projects to create two Toy-Con RC cars, a Toy-Con fishing rod, a Toy-Con house, a Toy-Con motorbike, and a Toy-Con Piano.

There'll also be a less-techy Cusomtization Set, giving you stickers, tape rolls and stencils to jazz up the cardboard elements, for $9.99.

Nintendo Labo was announced earlier as a "New Way to Play" on the Nintendo Switch.

Pence heads to Mideast trip
Vice President Mike Pence is making his fourth visit to Israel, returning to a region he's visited "a million times" in his heart. President Trump has scrapped plans to travel to his Florida resort amid the threat of a shutdown.

Nintendo has proven time and time again that they will manage to surprise us no matter what they cook up next, and the announcement of the Nintendo Labo was no exception. With the Switch, we offer different uses, adapted to players' pace of life.

Nintendo previously teased a revolutionary idea regarding possible cardboard kits for their popular handheld console, the Nintendo Switch.

The new toy kits are priced at $70-$80 and have the potential to become another source of high-margin revenue to help Nintendo's bottom line. What secrets do they hold?

By now we've all heard the news that the Nintendo Switch has been a huge success, selling a worldwide total of 10 million consoles - 4.8 million in the United States alone.

Nintendo Labo launches on April 20 in two versions.
