ChaiOS bug: A simple iMessage text can freeze your iPhone

The flaw was discovered by software developer Abraham Masri based in Chicago who shared a link which can be used to crash the app on social media. He wrote a warning to accompany his post on Twitter'Do not use it for bad stuff

In the meantime, iOS users are cautioned against sending the link that can trigger the bug.

A software developer has dicovered a shocking new security flaw, "text bomb", which can reportedly crash any iPhone just by a text message. The link preview contains the bug, and it can freeze iMessage all on its own. Still the lesson in all of this remains the same: Do not click on links sent in iMessages from unknown users, as they could have a malicious link attached to them. Apple's response, apparently, was to get the code yanked from the internet, but that's, at best, a short-term solution. However this is not the first time that a harmful message has been able to cause trouble on an iPhone.

Yesterday, we wrote about the chaiOS bug, which is a specific link that can cause iMessage on iOS and Macs to crash.

So far, Apple has not released a patch to fix the bug.

In the Supreme Court crisis, Tuesday might bring fresh fireworks
Finally on Tuesday, the CJI chose to break the ice and called to meet them and requested the judges to be in his chamber. Chelameswar , one of the four judges who led what was seen as a revolt against Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra.

You are affected by this bug if your device runs iOS 10.0 through 11.2.5 Beta 5 and some macOS computers.

As we noted earlier this week, chaiOS was discovered by Abraham Masri and potentially causes crashes, resprings, and battery issues on the latest versions of iOS and macOS. Masri has also refused to upload the bug, saying he released it to get Apple's attention. Finding working copies of the bug isn't easy, thankfully as the link, as well as other mirrors of it, have been taken down from GitHub.

Apple has yet to comment, however it's likely the company will rollout a software update to resolve the issue.

According to security expert Graham Cluley, the bug is more of an annoyance than a threat to files being accessed and any data being stolen from the user. If this sounds familiar, it is, as Apple is notorious for being vulnerable to similar bugs and viruses.
