General Motors has a auto without a steering wheel on the way

Meet the Cruise AV, GM's First Production-Ready Driverless Car

(GM) said it plans to mass-produce self driving cars that will have no steering wheel, pedals or manual controls by 2019.

Waymo, Alphabet Inc.'s self-driving technology company, is preparing to launch a commercial ride-hailing program in Phoenix using driver-less Chrysler Pacifica Minivans. The design concept for the fourth generation vehicle is shown in the following video: The Cruise AV is created to operate safely on its own, with no driver, steering wheel, pedals or other manual controls when it goes on the road in 2019.

To realize this vision, GM says it has "engineered safety into the Cruise AV in every step of design, development, manufacturing, testing and validation".

Besides the absence of a steering wheel, pedals, and other controls for the missing driver, the Cruise AV adds numerous sensors including the pricey but crucial Lidar that can be seen protruding from the rooftop bar.

One of the standards GM is asking to be waived is the requirement for vehicles to have airbags in their steering wheels, which wouldn't of course be possible for vehicles that don't have a steering wheel in the first place.

"What we can do is put the equivalent of the passenger side airbag on that side as well", he said.

The reason for the Safety Petition?

South Korean officials plan to ban all domestic cryptocurrency exchanges
Things couldn't get much worse for the Ripple team, with Ripple down another whopping 15.45% to $1.64863 at the time of writing. So, we may have a significant part of the market see its exchanges being shut down and the money can not easily go elsewhere.

It's not clear yet where or when the new vehicles will eventually be deployed.

These are most likely some of the things that will need to be ironed out or answered before, and if, the vehicle receives the final stamp of approval from the federal as well as other local state authorities.

GM is seeking approval for an autonomous vehicle which has no steering wheel and no pedals, and you can imagine the regulatory and red tape maze it has to navigate. The company also plans to soon start testing them in New York City.

However, GM President Dan Ammann told The Verge GM that the company might "meet that standard in a different kind of way". "Obviously, there will be an adoption curve where people get used to engaging with it and using it". Earlier in the fall, the federal government had requested more safety details from the self-driving auto industry. Automakers have pushed for a set of consistent nationwide standards to allow them enough scale to ideal the technology, but safety advocates have criticized the pending legislation as too lenient and a risk to public safety.

The Cruise AV will be the fourth generation of GM's all-electric Chevy Bolt vehicles.
