While the sale was made under Obama's watch, the decision to relocate the embassy was made under George W. Bush in 2008.

United States President Donald Trump has canceled his trip to Britain due to disappointment over a "bad" USA embassy.

Trump said he thought the embassy's move was a "bad deal" and the building was in an "off location".

The US president launched his attack on Twitter against the embassy's move from Grosvenor Square in the posh Mayfair area of the city to Nine Elms, south of the Thames, in a United States dollars 1.2 billion project.

Trump's comments come amid reports in British media that the White House was anxious about mass protests during the president's visit.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is now expected to perform the ribbon-cutting for the new complex which, contrary to Trump's tweet, cost $1 billion (€829.5 million) to construct.

President Donald Trump says he is canceling an upcoming trip to London because he doesn't like the Obama administration's choice of a new embassy there.

While the embassy has a prestigious central location, as Trump claims, its accessibility has also made it the target of protest in the past, from opponents to the Vietnam and Iraq wars and even local residents annoyed by its proximity.

Great changes of Facebook and the newsfeed of users
The social media platform said among its biggest focus areas for 2018 is to ensure that time spent on Facebook is well spent. The research shows that when we use social media to connect with people we care about, it can be good for our well-being.

"This reinforces what a mistake it was for Theresa May to rush and extend an invitation of a state visit in the first place".

Twitter users also showed skepticism about Trump's blaming his decision not to visit London on the embassy issue.

Donald Trump has cancelled his visit to the United Kingdom in February as a result of fears that his trip will be met with wide-scale protests.

Mrs May controversially extended the offer of a state visit when she became the first world leader to meet Mr Trump in the White House following his inauguration a year ago. The move, which ended a 200-year US association with London's Grosvenor Square, was part of American efforts to secure diplomatic staff in compounds - a push tied to terror concerns after al-Qaida bombings at two USA embassies in East Africa a decade ago. The old site was sold in 2009 and ground was broken at the new location in 2013.

President Donald Trump meets with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Trump had responded by tweeting directly to the British PM that she should focus on tackling domestic terrorism.

Some British lawmakers questioned whether Trump would be welcome after he re-tweeted videos from a far-right British group and criticized London Mayor Sadiq Khan following a terror attack past year.
