Kabul blast: Death toll rises to 20

Afghan security forces inspect the site of a suicide attack in Kabul

The death toll in the Kabul suicide attack on Thursday evening has risen to 15, while 20 people have suffered injuries.

In a statement Thursday, President Ashraf Ghani called the attack "inhumane" and against the tenets of Islam.

No one has so far claimed responsibility for the bombing but both Taliban insurgents and the Islamic State group's affiliate in Afghanistan have targeted the country's security forces in the past.

The blast happened close to a group of security personnel who were carrying out an operation against illegal drugs and alcohol dealing, officials said.

FCC Chairman Ajit Pai cancels Consumer Electronics Show appearance over death threats
Under the new directives, the FTC will be in charge of overseeing ISPs, as they were before net neutrality was established. However, two unnamed agency sources told Recode that Pai canceled his appearance after receiving death threats.

He said at least 16 policemen and 2 civilians were also wounded after a suicide bomber detonated his explosives among the police personnel and civilians.

Tolo News reported that local residents had participated in a street demonstration in the area earlier in the day. No group has yet claimed that attack.

"The US strongly condemns today's barbaric attack at a cultural and social centre in Kabul, Afghanistan, and offers its deepest condolences to the victims and their families", she said.

The latest assault comes a week after more than 40 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a suicide blast claimed by IS targeting the Shia community in Kabul.
