Nintendo Switch becomes fastest-selling video game system in USA history

It has been nearly 10 months since its launch and the sales of the console are still pretty good.

Nintendo held the previous record too, with its Wii U selling 4 million units in its first 10 months after launch in the US. The company has now increased its internal target for its first-year sales of the Switch to 16 million from 10 million. Today Nintendo announced that the Switch is the fastest-selling home video game console in United States history, soundly thrashing the previous record held by Nintendo's own Wii console.

South Korea holds Panama oil tanker suspected of North Korea trade
Besides those tests, North Korea also detonated its sixth and most powerful nuclear device and fired more than a dozen rockets. South Korean President Moon Jae-in has repeatedly expressed his hope that the North will participate in the Winter Games.

At the beginning of 2017, Nintendo was in a precarious position. Microsoft and Sony have not yet released holiday sales numbers for their consoles, but they are not expected to outperform the Switch.

Much of the appeal lies in the way the device can easily "switch" from being a TV-connected console to an easily portable gaming device in a matter of seconds, but it certainly doesn't hurt that Nintendo also released some strong games within the device's first year. You can be playing a game in the vehicle on the way home, then continue playing on the TV once you get home. It was followed closely by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Wild (owned by 55% of Switch owners/2.6 million copies), Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (owned by 50% of Switch owners/2.4 million copies), and Splatoon 2 (owned by 20% of Switch owners/almost a million copies). However, a reported delay in the manufacture of high-capacity Switch cartridges could restrict the flow of new games in 2018.
