At least 9 injured in fire as fire burns through building in the Bronx

The fire started around 5:30 a.m.

More than two dozen fire trucks and 150 firefighters swarmed the scene of a seven-alarm fire at a multistory building in the Bronx early Tuesday.

Photos and video showed thick black smoke billowing from the building as firefighters doused water on the roof with outside temperatures hovering in the teens.

When asked about the injured, Nigro said "They will all be OK, thankfully". The cause of the fire is unknown. Tuesday in a four-story apartment building in the Bronx, which has a furniture store on the ground floor.

The displaced residents were placed on an MTA bus so they could keep warm while firefighters continued battling the blaze.

Mayor Bill de Blasio called it the "worst fire tragedy we have seen in this city in at least a quarter century".
