'Have heard IMA', says Nadda as doctors strike work

Hyderabad: IMA gives strike call to private hospitals against NMC

The IMA has called a nationwide 12-hour strike by doctors of private hospitals against the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill 2017, which seeks to replace the Medical Council of India (MCI) with a new body.

Declaring Tuesday as a "Black Day" the IMA has been strongly opposing the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill which they say would "cripple" the functioning of medical professionals by making them completely answerable to the bureaucracy and non-medical administrators. "A bill to regulate the medical education and medical practice without the concurrence of the medical profession will be a disaster", said a statement from the association.

In Hubballi, the Hubballi unit of the IMA staged a protest before the tahsildar's office and submitted a memorandum.

The outpatient departments in private hospitals were closed in support of the strike called by the Indian Medical Association.

The Indian Medical Association has called off its pan Indian doctors' strike after the Medical Commission Bill was made a decision to be sent to a standing committee. The protest was staged by students from both private and government medical institutions. The doctor's strike has held against the new proposal of National Commission Bill. "This is very cruel", said a woman at the state-run General Hospital.

Chris Johnson's Forecast | Arctic air and risky wind chills arrive
Extreme arctic cold has settled into the region as we welcome 2018! Wind chills values are in the single digits Monday afternoon. Sub-zero temperatures and unsafe wind chill readings gripped north-central and north-eastern Montana at the beginning of 2018.

He added that the exit exam introduced in the Bill is not justified.

Among other concerns raised by the doctors is the inclusion of AYUSH (ayurveda, unani, sidda and homoeopathy) under the proposed NMC.

There is also a strong resentment against the examination that will be conducted by the NMC for medical students after completion of the course to be eligible as practising doctors.

The Bill is aimed at bringing reforms in the medical education sector which has been under scrutiny for corruption and unethical practices, a senior health ministry official said. And the majority of the new council members will be appointed by the government.
