
Dense fog at the national capital caused fall of the visibility level below 50 meters - less than the minimum needed for flight operations - resulting in the delay in departure or diversion of domestic and global flights coming for Delhi. Passengers traveling throughout the day should expect delays and cancellations due to the first day of the fog this season. This year's worst condition of fog has been experienced. At least 15 trains were cancelled while 56 trains were running late and 20 have been rescheduled due to fog in several parts of northern India. All flights to and from the national capital are on standby and no operations are active as of now due to low visibility, news agency ANI reported. With 23 flights cancelled, all of which were domestic ones, according to airport an official.No take-offs could take place between 7:30 am and 9:30 am, according to an airport official. However, for take-offs a minimum visibility of 125 metres is required. Flights can land in visibility below 50 metres if pilots are trained in CAT IIIB - which is Category Three.
Visibility improved to 2,000 metres later in the day and operations were restored to normal.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) at Delhi's Shadipur was recorded at 332, and Siri Fort at 388 - both in the "hazardous" category.
