'Make America Gay Again': Mike Pence's neighbours troll him with rainbow banner

Pitkin County Deputy Kent Taylor on Friday helps guard the entrance to the home near Aspen where Vice President Mike Pence is staying

Vice-president Mike Pence was greeted with a "Make America Gay Again" rainbow banner by his temporary neighbors during a stay at his vacation home in Aspen, Colorado.

According to Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo, the person who came out to drape the banner on the pillar was "real sheepish" at first.

Pence has a long history of opposition to LGBTQ equality, including promoting conversion therapy, opposing funding to fight HIV/AIDS, opposing marriage equality, and promoting religious exemptions to anti-discrimination laws.

The women reportedly became less timid afterward, and later brought out chili and corn muffins for the county deputies and Secret Service agents who were stationed at the foot of the driveway. They've been really nice to us'.

The banner was hung by the daughters of the homeowners - and one of their girlfriends.

"You couldn't miss it", Pitkin County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Buglione said Friday.

Pence is a Christian conservative who, as governor of IN, attempted to amend the state's constitution to ban same-sex marriages IN 2014. Later, he signed an amendment to that law that protects that community. As governor of IN in 2015, Pence signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, a bill that would have given people the right to discriminate against LGBT people for religious reasons.

He has also been accused of being a proponent of "conversion therapy", a practice which purports to change individuals' sexual orientation via spiritual intervention.

Vice President Mike Pence's political action committee has taken in $2 million this year, and he is using that to help Republican candidates in the 2018 midterm elections, according to a new report.

The New Yorker reported in October that Trump mocked Pence's religious and socially conservative beliefs and joked that the vice president wants to "hang" gays.

The Pence family arrived to Aspen on Tuesday and were expected to leave next week.
