United States vetos United Nations resolution on Jerusalem

The U.S. on Monday vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution that rejects the establishment of diplomatic facilities in the contested city of Jerusalem, breaking with the rest of the council.

Before the vote, Egyptian ambassador to the United Nations Amr Abdellatif Aboulatta explained that the draft resolution seeks to ensure that any attempts to alter the characteristics or demographic composition of the Old City of Jerusalem have no effect and are null and void, and must be rescinded.

US policy had held that the status of Jerusalem is an issue to be decided in peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian leaders.

But Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, in some of his sharpest rhetoric since Trump's announcement, reiterated in public comments to senior Palestinian officials Monday that he will no longer accept the U.S.as a Mideast mediator.

Haley said Trump "took great care not to prejudge final status negotiations in any way, including the specific boundaries of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem", which must be decided by the Israelis and Palestinians. The draft resolution had included a call on all countries to refrain from opening embassies in Jerusalem, reflecting concerns that other governments could follow the USA lead.

Key US allies Britain, France, Italy, Japan and Ukraine were among the 14 countries in the 15-member council that backed the measure, highlighting Washington's isolation. "What we witnessed here today in the Security Council is an insult".

British Ambassador Matthew Rycroft said, "The status of Jerusalem should be determined through a negotiated settlement between the Israelis and the Palestinians, and should ultimately be the shared capital of the Israeli and Palestinian states".

Simmons and fellow producer Rick Rubin helped bring hip-hop to wide USA audiences in the 1980s. In a lengthier statement , he added: "I vehemently deny all these allegations".

Haley was adamant that "the United States will not be told by any country where we can put our embassy".

It came ahead of a planned trip by the USA vice-president, Mike Pence, to Jerusalem on Wednesday that was set to take place amid a deep rupture in U.S.

Echoed by Abbas, he said that the USA "destroyed" the two state solution and "undermined all peace efforts".

The Palestinian president also announced that he signed on Monday bids to join 22 global organizations, and that he would apply every week to another organization, adding that he would form a committee to study all the relevant projects.

The only support for the United States came from Israel.

Abu Rudeina stressed that this veto would lead to further isolation of the USA and is a provocation of the worldwide community.

Indeed, our president is letting the world know - including the anti-Semitic United Nations cesspool in Manhattan - that their historical Jew hatred will not be tolerated and that politics-as-usual will take a back seat to the enduring truths of the Bible, in which the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob mandated that their inheritance of the land of Israel is totally immutable.
