Netflix is weirdly anxious about 'A Christmas Prince' fans

The Netflix US Twitter account sent out a anxious tweet on Sunday asking "A Christmas Prince" fans "Who hurt you?"

Referencing A Christmas Prince, a film Netflix produced and is extensively promoting, the company claimed 53 users had watched it every day for the past 18 days - and suggested they were traumatised.

Another user said the tweet was wonderful, "except for the "watching us like big brother" part".

53 people have watched A Christmas Prince every day for the past 18 days and now Netflix is throwing some shade at those people! How else could the company get super-specialized recommendations for you, such as romantic period dramas based on books?

The intention was humorous, but many of Netflix's followers on Twitter were angry at the frivolous use of customer data.

The tone of the message is also drawing criticism.

Al Franken's Farcical Resignation Speech
Leeann Tweeden posted this photo online that she says was taken while she was asleep on a flight back from a 2006 USO trip. After Tweeden came forward, multiple other women accused Franken of groping them.

While some followers laughed at the sentiment, others were freaked out by the level of scrutiny Netflix applies to what we've been watching. Shaming its subscribers, even in jest, for a feel-good film meant to cheer up its viewers didn't sit well with everyone. How is this creepy when their library is public?,' wrote one user. Check out what Netflix has on deck, including their original, "A Christmas Prince", and so many more.

Meanwhile, Netflix has defended their tweet, saying it doesn't identify individual users, as per a report by the BBC.

But, Netflix's account has continued to clap back at viewers hating on their joke, which has been retweeted over 104,000 times and liked over 410,000 times and has drawn over 7,300 replies.

Previously Netflix called out an unnamed customer for watching Bee Movie a total of 357 times in 2017, and another account that watched Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 365 days in a row (which had to be some black site enhanced interrogation tactic, right?).

In response to this, Netflix has given a short statement to the BBC via one of their representatives.
