Numerous questions remain on Russian athletes' participation in 2018 Olympics

Report: USUN ambassador not certain athletes should be sent to Olympics due to “North Korea situation”

That itself was in response to the USA -led boycott of the Moscow Olympics four years earlier.

Dvorkovich did hit out at the IOC, saying its actions "actions pose a manifestation of disrespect to the Olympic Games", he said.

The country's athletics federation and anti-doping agency were suspended over a separate WADA report in 2015 containing evidence of state-backed doping in track and field.

At the State Kremlin Palace on December 1, FIFA President Gianni Infantino said at a joint news conference with Mutko that the IOC's decision would not affect the World Cup.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday that Russia would not prevent its athletes from competing at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics if they so desired.

Russian athletes have also responded, but focused more on what should happen with coming events than their peers who have committed the doping acts: Svetlana Zhurova, a Russian ice skating Olympic champion, said clean athletes should be allowed to compete as well as be allowed to do so under the Russian flag; Alexei Voevoda, a Russian bobsledder and Olympic champion, said athletes in the past were banned for a few years already, and that banning athletes for life is not in the spirit of sports.

Bryan Singer fired from Queen biopic
Cinematographer Thomas Newton Sigel stepped in and directed a few days' worth of shooting while Singer mysteriously vanished. One source told THR Singer is claiming he's suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder because of tension on the set.

As of Tuesday, any of those Russian athletes who meet specific competition standards and drug testing requirements will be able to compete but will be barred from wearing their Russian uniforms and will trade their home country's flag for that of the Olympics.

Russian Federation will never recognize the lies spread by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), whose accusations are based on the testimony of a person with psychiatric problems who has been accused of crimes, Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev said today at a government meeting.

We work with our own doping cases, but we will never recognize the lies about our sports system spread by WADA, as one of the conditions that they demand from us to allow our delegation to travel to South Korea, Medvedev said.

The bans came as the result of an International Olympic Committee investigation into allegations of state-backed doping among Russian competitors and sample tampering by laboratory and security officials at Sochi. It wants the scientist extradited from the United States, where he is a protected witness. The delegation was led by Zhukov, who was later suspended. Those allegations prompted WADA and the International Olympic Committee to launch two more investigations, both of which confirmed Rodchenkov's charges.

The chairman of that disciplinary panel, Swiss lawyer Denis Oswald, reported about prosecuting Russian athletes implicated in cheating at Sochi. This is the most important challenge for the International Olympic Committee and its partner organizations.

It has so far handed out lifetime bans to 25 Russian competitors since the start of November and stripped 11 medals, which means Russia has dropped from first in the Sochi medal table, to fourth behind Norway, Canada and the US.
