Whistleblower To Dems: Flynn Promised Biz Associate He'd Gut Russia Sanctions

Flynn Said Russian Sanctions Would be 'Ripped Up,' Whistle-Blower Says

According to The New York Times, House Oversight Committee ranking Democrat Elijah Cummings wrote to committee chair Trey Gowdy that "within minutes of Donald Trump being sworn in as President", Flynn was "communicating directly with his former business colleagues about their plan to work with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in the Middle East".

Democrats revealed the whistleblower's account in a letter sent by Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD) to House Oversight Chair Trey Gowdy (R-SC), which was released just as the New York Times published its own report on the claims.

"Our committee has credible allegations that President Trump's national security adviser sought to manipulate the course of worldwide nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners", said Cummings.

According to Cummings's letter, the witness said he met Alex Copson, Flynn's former business associate, at an inaugural event. These grave allegations compel a full, credible, and bipartisan congressional investigation, ' Cummings wrote.

The letter says Flynn blamed Obama for having 'f***** everything up in my nuclear deal with the sanctions'.

Cummings also said the whistleblower quoted a business associate of Flynn as saying the economic sanctions against Russian Federation imposed by former President Barack Obama would be "ripped up" as Flynn's first order of business as Trump's national security adviser.

According to a whistleblower who contacted the lawmaker, the businessman said Flynn had told him that sanctions on Russian Federation would be "ripped up" as a priority in the new Trump government to help the nuclear scheme go ahead.

Cummings wrote that Mueller's office had asked him to hold back the information until "they completed certain investigative steps" - which apparently have now been concluded. Copson is the managing director of ACU Strategic Partners, a Washington-based company that Flynn said he advised from April 2015 through June 2016, according to a financial disclosure he filed this August. The Wall Street Journal reported in September that despite records showing Flynn's work on the project ended in December 2016, Flynn continued promoting the plan to colleagues inside the White House.

A spokesperson for Gowdy's office did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday, nor did the lawyer who represents ACU Strategic Partners.

Reached Wednesday, Flynn's attorney declined to comment. He was ousted as national security advisor after only 24 days on the job. And one of the companies involved in the project covered his travel expenses and wrote him a check for $25,000 for the trip, though it's not clear if Flynn cashed the check.

Cummings has argued that the Flynn plea deal should alleviate that concern.

It also raised fresh questions on what Trump knew about Flynn's business plans when he appointed the retired three- star general to serve as his national security advisor.

Cummings said he had found the unnamed informant to be "authentic, credible and reliable", and offered to produce the person for Gowdy.

Cummings did not identify the witness, whom he described as a whistleblower.
