Giancarlo Stanton Trade Rumors: Miami Has 'Framework' of Giants, Cardinals Deals

MLB notebook: Giants, Stanton reps meet

The Miami Marlins have agreed to the general framework of a trade involving star Giancarlo Stanton to the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants, according to MLB Network's Jon Morosi.

Stanton, of course, has a full no-trade clause.

One source told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand that a Stanton deal was not expected to be completed Sunday. As such, the rumor mill is buzzing with potential free agent signings and trade talks, especially around the future of Giancarlo Stanton. The Los Angeles Dodgers have also been linked with interest in Stanton. The player's reps have already met with the San Francisco Giants' brass and were granted permission by the Miami franchise to pursue similar conversations with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Dodgers' best bet might be waiting for Stanton to force the Marlins' hand, if Los Angeles is in fact his preferred destination, and to take advantage of Miami's desperation to unload as much of that contract as possible.

In a similar attack, Pakistani Taliban gunmen, in December 2014, had killed 134 children at Peshawar's Army Public School. The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions including the University of Peshawar .

Stanton has 10 years and $295 million left on his contract, which includes an opt-out following the 2020 season.

The Marlins also want to move Dee Gordon, who's owed $38 million through 2020, and the second baseman would be a nice fit for the Giants, who lack speed.

The meeting comes with the approval of the Marlins, in accordance with Major League Baseball's tampering rules; it could not happen otherwise. Morosi said the Marlins and Dodgers have remained in touch about the slugger, but there was been "no substantial progress".
