Lil Wayne & Wu-Tang Albums Could Be Seized From Martin Shkreli

Meet Four Inspiring Kids Tackling Cancer

The feds want Shkreli to turn over his rare copy of Wu Tang Clan's Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, which he famously purchased for a $2 million in 2015. Among the listed assets are a Wu-Tang Clan's Once Upon A Time In Shaolin and Lil Wayne's The Carter V, the latter of which many doubted Shkreli actually owned and was just more trolling.

Before being convicted of securities fraud, Shkreli grabbed headlines in 2015 while he was CEO of another pharmaceutical company called Turing Pharmaceuticals. As noted in an unrelated lawsuit, the album included a leather-bound book featuring drawings of Wu Tang Clan's nine members.

Shkreli's attorney Benjamin Brafman responded to the news, saying: "We will vigorously oppose the government motion".

Shkreli, 34, is being held at Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center while awaiting sentencing.

As Pitchfork notes, the exact values of Tha Carter V and Shaolin have not been released, and it's not clear if Shkreli still owns the albums.

I think in the beginning of football, the guy who decides to say defenders and attackers, this guy was bad. Everybody has to defend and attack, especially in modern football, so for me you can say what you want.

The prosecutors asked a Brooklyn federal court judge on Thursday, Nov. 30, to seize more than $7 million worth of assets belonging to the former pharmaceutical executive, who is now serving time in jail for cheating investors.

Shkreli spent months a year ago, in the lead-up to his criminal trial, in a odd game of cat-and-mouse with Lil Wayne to acquire the album. As part of its assets forfeiture claim, the Justice Department said that it will keep the $5 million bond Shkreli posted before his bail was revoked.

Prosecutors say Shkreli's assets subject to forfeiture also include an Enigma code-breaking machine from World War II and an unspecified Picasso.

Shkreli, assailed as "Pharma Bro" after dramatically increasing the price of a life-saving drug, was convicted in August of defrauding investors in two of his hedge funds and scheming to control shares in Retrophin Inc. Several of Shkreli's former investors have testified in the trial.
