Guardiola regrets Redmond rant after City victory

Guardiola wary of bans before derby

Pep Guardiola admits that he regrets confronting Nathan Redmond after Manchester City beat Southampton.

But having reviewed footage of the incident, the FA have sought Guardiola's version of events.

In the immediate aftermath of Premier League leaders City snatching the points through Raheem Sterling's 96th-minute victor, Guardiola approached Redmond on the field and gesticulated in an animated fashion.

But Guardiola still conceded on Friday he regrets the way he went about talking to an opposition player in public.

Guardiola was quite hands on when speaking to Redmond, with many wondering what exactly what said.

"I spoke with Oriol Romeu as well, with (Virgil) van Dijk and with my players as well".

'Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep. Hopefully I will improve. I said what I said and what Nathan said in his statement.

"(I told him) how good a player he is", Guardiola said. I didn't know him last season and didn't realise how good he is.

"When I give you an opinion, I give you an opinion", former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager Guardiola told reporters.

"He commented on my qualities as a young English player and how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game in a similar way to last season". "I admire him as a player and say thank you for his comments but if the FA want my statement again I am able to explain whatever they want. It's not a problem".

Southampton manager Pellegrino refused to be drawn on the issue, insisting he still has not seen the incident or discussed it with Redmond.

Guardiola said he would "never judge the way opponents play against one of my teams". "Everyone wants to win the game, definitely. They believe that is the best way".

"I understand completely to attack with the set-pieces".

"You know, if you are my friends, don't ask me the question, because you know I get into trouble, so no". "My emotion was there because of how I celebrated, scored the goal after 96 minutes".
