Jay-Z, Lamar, hip-hop dominate Grammy nominations, but can they win?

The Grammys 2018 most shocking snubs What happened to Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry

Jay-Z, Childish Gambino, and Kendrick Lamar appear in the Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories.

"Two of them!Thank you Lord.I couldn't be more grateful ❤️", penned Cardi B on Instagram upon learning that she's up for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance thanks to her record-breaking hit "Bodak Yellow". Once again, it was shut out of the four major categories: record, song and album of the year, and best new artist. The Rock and Alternative categories are completely dominated by men, while the Best New Artist category might be the strongest of the year in terms of representation with Alessia Cara, Khalid, Lil Uzi Vert, Julia Michaels, and SZA all nominated. It was only in 1989, 40 years after the Grammys originally aired, that the Academy introduced an award for Best Rap Performance, despite hip-hop having been big for years.

Using the hashtag #OscarsBeSoWhite fans and celebrities alike took to Twitter to protest the fact that out of the 20 actors and actresses nominated in the lead and supporting categories for 2015 and 2016, none were non-white. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and all 14 songs charted. And even that seems generous, given his laughable new album (but that's never stopped the Academy before).

Drake has previously been nominated 33 times at the Grammys, and has won three times: Best Rap song for Hotline Bling, Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for Hotline Bling, and Best Rap Album for Take Care.

The report added that Kerala can expect heavy winds that can reach up to speeds of 85 kmph along South Kerala coast. During next 48 hours high velocity winds up to the speed of 55 km to 65 km per hour are expected in southern Kerala.

You might remember last year when Adele, crying and cradling her Grammy for Album of the Year at the end of the night, tearfully told audiences that Beyoncé actually deserved the award.

For the complete list of this year's nominees check out the official Grammy site.

On Tuesday, Jay-Z collected eight nods, Kendrick Lamar seven and producer (and former Chicagoan) No I.D. got five, continuing a yearslong pattern of hip-hop and R&B domination of the nominations. Other artists that are up for major awards include Bruno Mars and Childish Gambino.
