Upstate man among Massage Envy employees accused of sexual misconduct

More than 180 people have reported being sexually assaulted at Massage Envy spas around the country according to a Buzz Feed News investigation

An investigation by BuzzFeed News found more than 180 women have accused therapists at Massage Envy of groping and other sexual acts.

"She said in a very apparently scripted response, 'We invite you in to talk about your services.' And I said no, no, no you don't understand, '" said Ingram. The woman reported him and he was sacked.

After calling the spa to report an assault in which her massage therapist, James Dieter (who has since pled guilty to assaulting nine women), groped her and rubbed his erect penis on her, Susan Ingram says a manager refused to interrupt Deiter's massage session.

In a statement, Massage Envy calls the incidents "heartbreaking", adding, "we will never stop reinforcing to our franchisees the importance of a safe environment".

She says it happened while she was making minimum wage, working as a receptionist at a Massage Envy in Glendale, California, and getting a complimentary massage.

"No one ever reached out to me, to ask how I was doing or to see if they could support me after their employees was convicted, so it was was no longer just an alleged assault", Dick said during the "Today" segment.

According to the report, the spa had decided that the women's allegations "weren't credible" because they were made over the phone - all three women declined to return to the scene of the alleged crimes to "discuss the events in person".

Oscar Pistorius Prison Sentence Increased
Pistorius can appeal the new sentence, according to Kelly Phelps, an adviser to his defense team, but no decision has been made. The Supreme Court said that Pistorius "displays a lack of remorse, and does not appreciate the gravity of his actions".

She reported it to the owners.

The American Massage Therapy Association told BuzzFeed that "anyone who feels there may be inappropriate behavior to call the local police immediately" and that "any massage therapist who steps over the line to inappropriate touch should face the legal consequences".

A well-known national massage chain is now the latest public entity facing accusations of sexual assault.

"None of them took it seriously", Kendall said. "It's why we are constantly listening, learning and looking at how we can do more". "You don't want cop cars showing up at your location the next day", she told BuzzFeed.

According to her lawsuit, she had fallen asleep on the massage table and awoke when the therapist grabbed her legs, pulled her to the edge of the table, and raped her.

"It's sad that there are so many people that go into the business of massage and chose to violate customers the way they do".

News 4 is not aware of any other allegations involving Massage Envy franchises in Tennessee. Still, it said even one incident is too many, reports CBS News' Meg Oliver.
