Meyer: Tennessee Vols have contacted Schiano about head coaching job

It's been a wild 24 hours for Greg Schiano

The University of Tennessee is close to a deal that would make Greg Schiano the program's next football coach, multiple media outlets have reported.

Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer said: "I know he was contacted".

Tennessee fired Butch Jones on November 12 after they dropped to 0-6 in SEC play.

The Vols plucked Schiano, 51, from Ohio State, where he was in his second season as defensive coordinator. His Ohio State defense has since piqued the interest of Tennessee, which has a history of making such brilliant coaching hires as Lane Kiffin and Derek Dooley.

In October, a judge declined to overturn Sandusky's conviction for sexual abuse of 10 boys. Prior to that, he head been the head coach at Rutgers from 2001-11 and with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2012-13.

Warriors star Durant says he will play against Thunder
Westbrook's new All-Star teammates came through. "They're fantastic talents", Curry said. "I go out and compete at a high level". The Thunder led 65-48 at halftime as Westbrook filled the stat sheet with 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Tennessee (4-8, 0-8 SEC) ended its season Saturday with a 42-24 loss to Vanderbilt.

He won at least eight games in five of his last six seasons with the Scarlet Knights.

After going from Rutgers to the NFL, Schiano wasn't almost as effective.

Schiano was hired by the Buccaneers following the 2011 season, but he was sacked after two seasons with an 11-21 record. Rutgers went 11-2 in 2006 under Schiano, finishing the season 12th in the nation.
