Argentina's Navy Detects Noises at Sea That Could Be From Missing Submarine

On Monday, navy spokesman Enrique Balbi confirmed that "the seven attempted calls did not come from the submarine's satellite phone".

At the naval base of Mar del Plata, where the submarine was expected this week, relatives of the sailors are still hoping to receive good news. The vessel went out of contact while en route from the islands of Argentina's Tierra del Fuego to the Armada Argentina's northern base at Mar del Plata.

"We are checking and confirming that information, and we are trying to squeeze out any information that may result in something concrete to detect the location", Balbi said.

He said it is common for submarines to suffer system malfunctions.

A storm has hindered an global search operation for a missing Argentinian submarine as authorities try to verify whether recent satellite calls were from the submarine with 44 crew members on board.

Gonzalez said the navy had intensified an aerial hunt off the country's southern Atlantic coast after adverse weather conditions spurred waves up to 26 feet (8 meters) and made a maritime search hard.

Capt Galeazzi spoke of a "short circuit" in the sub's batteries.

Rescue equipment american arrived on Sunday to Comodoro Rivadavia (Patagonia) was on Monday during assembly.

Party for 35 days, the submarine was on a surveillance mission between Ushuaia, at the southern tip of the America, and Mar del Plata, his home port.

This type of problem is considered routine and the vessel's crew was reported safe, he added.

That hope came in the form of seven signals to a satellite, which defense officials believe may have been attempts to communicate.

Airbus Just Outdid Boeing with a Massive Airplane Deal
Emirates now relies exclusively on the Airbus 380 and the Boeing 777 for its flights, making it the largest operator of both. American Airlines in 2011 ordered 460 new planes in a single deal, but that was spread between both Boeing and Airbus .

The Argentinian navy lost radio contact with the San Juan after its last scheduled transmission on Wednesday morning.

The US official said that the waters of the Atlantic Ocean where the sounds originated are extremely deep.

So far, 80 percent of the area initially marked for search has shown no signs of the submarine.

The Argentine military has also been working with a United States company that specializes in satellite communication to determine the location of the submarine.

Despite the bad weather, "10 aircraft, both domestic and foreign, are in a search rotation 24 hours a day, each in a different area", he said.

Naval base boss Gabriel Galeazzi said: "The vessel surfaced and it reported a breakdown".

The communications company is part of a growing worldwide search mission combing the waters of the Atlantic and listening to all frequencies for signs of the sub.

If it is immersed and can not raise a snorkel, oxygen may last about seven days.

Balbi also said that supplies should not be a concern at present, as crew usually take food and oxygen enough for 15 days.

"This phase of search and rescue is critical", Balbi said. "We welcome the help we have received to find them".
